And good to let unsuspecting homeowners know this can happen. we have had this exact same scheme tried on us twice!! they usually start a few months in advance so be real careful. never never ever give them money....they are renting from you and need to give you money. they make it seem real legitimate, often times saying its coming from a company checking account. don't be fooled. we keep consumer tips on our website from time to time when we hear of them so people dont get in trouble. we have also heard, by the way, that some con men act as the owner and take the prospective renters money when they are not the homeowner. some renters need to be careful too. ask for proof that they are in fact the owner.
