Initially, the entire Southern Colorado Region was serviced by the Denver area Better Business Bureau, also known as the Rocky Mountain Better Business Bureau. In July of 1980, through the efforts of local businesses, the Colorado Springs Better Business Bureau was incorporated.
From January 1987 to January 2004, Pueblo was independent of Colorado Springs. At that time Pueblo was known as the Southern Colorado Better Business Bureau. The Colorado Springs BBB then became the Better Business Bureau of the Pikes Peak Region.
In January 2004 the BBBs in Pueblo and Colorado Springs joined forces to become the Better Business Bureau of Southern Colorado. We now service 25 counties in the region.
There are four Better Business Bureaus currently serving the Colorado population:
- The Better Business Bureau of Southern Colorado, Colorado
- The Denver/Boulder Better Business Bureau, Denver, CO
- Mountain States Better Business Bureau, Fort Collins, CO
- The Better Business Bureau Serving New Mexico and
Southwestern Colorado, Farmington, NM
Today, your BBB serves about 3100 BBB Accredited Businesses and is still growing. We are recognized as a valuable source of marketplace information and impartial dispute settlement services. Both businesses and consumers turn to us for information and support.
Typically, the Bureau services begin before marketplace problems occur. With about 26,000 records, we provide company reports, called reliability reports, on local businesses and non-profit organizations. This allows consumers and businesses to make an informed decision before doing business together.
In 2011, we received approximately 700,000 inquiries (pre-purchase calls, not complaints) on companies both in and out of southern Colorado. Less than four percent of calls are complaints.
Your Better Business Bureau System represents the concept of self-regulation in the marketplace through voluntary cooperation. We are a public service supported by private businesses. We are considered an important information resource for businesses and consumers.
Although we are affiliated with the 130 bureaus across the U.S. and Canada, each bureau is a separate corporation. The Council of Better Business Bureaus is located in Arlington, VA. The Council issues charters for local bureaus, provides support services and monitors adherence to standard guidelines.
Your BBB is a private, non-profit organization classified as a 501-C-6.
