If you didn’t get that job you wanted, failed your driving test, or didn’t make the soccer team, you know disappointment is a part of life. But according to former Denver Bronco football player Karl Mecklenburg, success is overcoming obstacles on the way to your dreams. Mecklenburg, considered the NFL’s most versatile player, gained this prestigious status in spite of the fact that he did not make his own high school football team until his senior year!

That’s why Mecklenburg has been selected by the Better Business Bureau of Southern Colorado to be the keynote speaker at its 2010 Excellence in Customer Service Awards (EICS) event on Friday, September 17. Inspired by his experience during his 12 years in the pros, Mecklenburg has written a book, Heart of a Student Athlete, and he will share that wisdom with local businesses during his presentation.

More specifically, Mecklenburg will speak about the Six Keys to Success in Business, a topic which dovetails perfectly with the BBB’s EICS program, which was created to give companies the opportunity to analyze and then improve their customer service process. Working with trained, independent evaluators, EICS applicants in southern Colorado undergo a rigorous self inventory. When the process is complete, all participants receive a comprehensive feedback report from the evaluators with recommendations on how to improve their internal operations.

Those companies that have proven outstanding customer services systems will be recognized at the EICS dinner on September 17, at the DoubleTree Hotel – World Arena in Colorado Springs.

The day's events include:

  • an afternoon seminar with Vicki Hitzges to teach you vital skills you can use to build relationships that last at 3:00 p.m.
  • a book signing with Karl Mecklenburg at 4:30 p.m.
  • a silent auction
  • dinner with a keynote address by Karl Mecklenburg
  • the BBB Foundation scholarship, GE Johnson Award for Marketplace Ethics and EICS Award presentations
