Would love to work at home doing data entry and excel jobs on the computer and would love a Top 5 list of legitimate businesses for this type of work. Just don't want to get ripped off like I hear so many people do and would love to get started soon since I've been out of work over 1 year now.

Sharon, Here is a great article that addresses this. I found it by searching "How to get a legitimate at-home job" on Google. http://www.azcentral.com/business/articles/2011/04/12/20110412how-get-legitimate--home-job.html

Hello, Look out for a scam for work at home kit for "writing" on the computer. I found out it was doing "blogs" and they said filling out questionaires for companies. I had to pay upfront-(big mistake), then they sent me a cd and charged me $60 some fo it! I didn't even want it. They said "if not satisified 100% refund". Well, when I tried getting the refund, I could no longer sign on to the page I belonged to!! So absolutly no answer even when I replied to the email she sent initally. No refund at all. It was a total scam! I don't really trust these at home things anymore. If anything, watch out for payment up front and if they say 100% refund, it's not always true. Now, I didn't look into BBB first, which is a good idea. I was just trying to find out any complaints about a site called www.incomeathome.com. They have the logo of the BBB, but when you look it up, they are NOT accredited. They don't have to be, but I did find out they just started in Nov. 2010 and I couldn't find out where to look for complaints. Anyone know?

Can anyone tell me about ehome profit sharing. I am thinking of signing up but cannot afford to be ripped off. Being out of work for over one year this sounds like the perfect opportunity.

I have been looking into the Elizabeth Jackson work at home program. Do you have any information about this. It seems to look okay, but I cannot find anything about it on my BBB.

Laura, good for you to question what some companies claim they are and what they can do. I researched Rebate Processor Jobs by going to www.bbb.org. Clicked on "Check Out a Business or Charity". I then entered the name of the company and a BBB company report came up. They are located in Colton, California and have a F rating. For more information about the company read the entire report. On another note, unfortunately there is not an article about online work scams on our BBB Web site. For more information on work-at-home business opportunities go to www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/microsites/phonefraud/workathome.shtml.

Wendy, some real work at home employment ideas are: pet care, child care, working for a call center, selling online, taking a hobby and turning it into a business, and selling for companies like Mary Kay and Avon. Before starting any business write a business plan and check with your attorney, CPA and local Small Business Development Center about possible liabilities, local and state regulation, and other business information. If working for a company, be sure and check out the business with the Better Business Bureau.

Where on BBB website does it talk about online work scams? I am looking at Andrew Gaswint - Work at Home Expert. I see nothing anywhere about it. The thing that bothers me is there is no place to email a real person to support the letters of recommendation, no phone number to call...Web page appears questionable. I found the job listing in indeed.com. I then followed the link and started reasearching. Rebate Processor Jobs is what I think the company name is. It states it is the #1 site for at home work, but I don't see who rated it that. I assume it is a scam, but I want to be sure I am looking for the correct signals.
